THE EUROPEAN SUMMIT ON UNMANNED SYSTEMS
FOR SECURITY AND DEFENSE
In the middle of the next decade,
drone markets will exceed 20,000 million euros per year. The civil applications
will undergo an important growth conditioned by its regulation. Military and
security market will continue representing an important volume, estimated at
approximately one third of the totality.
Military demand, which has
traditionally been an engine in the technological development of particularly
in drone market and generally in robotics, will continue playing as a driver in
the development of critical technologies. From the industrial point of view,
the market is currently led by the US and Israeli companies. In this field,
European industrial development, which has been relevant at an individual
level, requires coordination to guarantee the technological sovereignty and
strategic autonomy of Europe.
In recent years, the European
Commission, the European Defense Agency and through different initiatives of
international cooperation have become aware of the importance of having
autonomous capacity in these systems for the defense of Europe. This awareness
of the importance of cooperation requires a combination of positions among
users, industries and the scientific community. Nowadays Europe lacks a
specific forum about Autonomous Systems or Remotely Managed Systems applied to
Security and Defense which allows all stakeholders for exchanging knowledge,
experiences and points of view about a very important technology.
This situation has led us to design
an event like UNVEX S&D, based on the experience of seven editions of
UNVEX, performed in Spain and Latin America and the support of the Spanish
Ministry of Defence. The objective is to create an international meeting point
that allows to enhance the cooperation for the benefit of the security and
welfare of Europeans. In this field, European industrial development, which has
been important at an individual level, requires a coordinated input to ensure
Europe's technological sovereignty and strategic autonomy.
